6.4L twin turbo is coming. This fall we'll have the details. Edmunds.com has some spy pictures of the more boxy look for Super Duty as a 2008, which could be in January as with the HD GM's which will look like the pictures I have at the top of this forum of 2007 GM 1500. I've seen the 2008 GM HD 2500 and 3500 but don't have details of the utra low sulfur GM diesel change. The 8.1L gas engine goes away with the 6.0L gas and 6.6L Duramax the only choices in HD.

The 6.4 TWIN TURBO has been known and talked about for almost 2 years now.Was SUPPOSE to have been out already and held up for REASONS.One rumor is not meeting EMISSONS.Time will tell.I imagine Ford is trying to make sure this engine works after the 6.0 disaster.Said to be even less room under the hood then the 6.0 which is already packed tight.

Refilled the diesel tank yesterday, and noticed a new warning on the pump. I can't remember the exact words, but the fuel could not be used in the 2007 model diesel engines. What's up?

"Low" means 500 ppm., probably not a term that should have been used, but it was/is.
It has become necessary to coin the term "ultra low", which is around 15 ppm., the current "Low" isn't low enough for the 2007s. The warning is that using it in the '07s and beyond is illegal because it will damage the emissions systems.
The Ford 4.5 V6 (3/4 of the 6.0 V8) that was also LONG rumored to come to the US and help bring down the size of available klattermotors - seems to have become a "will not be available in the US" engine.

All new diesel vehicles made after January 1st 2007 will require the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel. In order to make sure that fuel is available when the new trucks show up. New guidelines have been established. Manufactures of diesel had to start production of the new Ultra Low Sulfur in June, it has to be in the Distribution centers by September and at the Pump by November. The stickers you are seeing on diesel pumps now is the begining of an education program to educate the public of the new diesel fuels.
Low suflur diesel will still be made after January 1st and will be available outside of California until until June1, 2010. Your local station can choose to carry it and the ultra low sulfur fuel. But a tank full of low sulfur will destroy the particulate filters that the new engines will have. So all pumps will have to be posted as to what type of sulfur content their fuel is. My personal take on this is that very few stations will carry both types of diesel fuel.. They can not afford to install additional storage tanks, supply lines and new pumps for a fuel type that will go away in 3-4 years. So I expect that most of us will be buying the Ultra Low Sulfur diesel for trucks, because it will be the only choice at the pump.
Ford GM and Dodge are all readying a new line up of engines to meet the new epa guidelines for 2007 emissions. Ford will address the new emission guidelines with a new engine. 6.4L and call that model a 2008 truck.. None of these new engines will be released prior to the new Ultra Low sulfur fuel being available to the public. Rumurs that Ford has had problems with the new engine or was delaying the release until they had fully troubleshot the engine are just that - Rumurs. You just can't release a new engine before the fuel it requires is generally available.

I've heard similar things. My brother and wife make campers out of 450/550's and they told me they'll be going to an unveiling later this year. Rumor is that it'll be tough to get your hands on the new one - but I'm leery of any first year run, especially after the often problematic 6.0.
New one promises to have twin turbos - but sequential/in-line which is interesting. If I was Ford, I'd be looking at simplicity as the driver and I don't know that they're headed in that direction with this new power plant...

I hadn't noticed that, class 4 and 5 cab forward trucks aren't in the general interest of most horse trailer folk.
Odd that they put the smaller engine in the bigger trucks, not that Ford is the only company to do this. Operating costs MATTER to commercial users, (braggable) horsepower seems to matter to the private owner.

OK, maybe it depends on the breadth AND direction of your views/interests.
Blue oval news used to be a good source, I used to have an interest in Fords.
Times change.
It might only be anecdotal, but there is at least some evidence that Ford has been shipping VERY unproven product in recent years, and that has soured MY opinion of them.
YMMV, etc.
Right now I think they're in a "damned if they do, damned if they don't" introduce the 6.4 before they salvage their rep on 6.0.
They could cut their losses on it, but leave behind the impression that they were never able to fix it, which wouldn't carry forward well to the 6.4
Somebody probably gets paid to worry about their product strategy, it ain't I.

Twin turbos are a step in the WRONG direction for those of us who don't haul for a living or use our trucks for business. Better hope you don't have something catastrophically fail your turbos at the same time.
The 6.0 was bad enough. The twin turbo coming up next year was enough to wrestle this 10+ year Ford truck driver into a Dodge diesel.

What are the TOTAL operating costs per million pound freight miles ?
How many days per year in the shop for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance ?
Braggin' power don't cut it with the finance and admin dept, or ANYONE trying to run a business.
Sunset Strip ? Maybe, but how large is THAT market ?

I am a Ford Superduty owner and will continue to be one, however not with any diesel they offer. I currently have a V10 powering my CC LB 250.The other Big truck makes don't appeal to me looks and interior wise but I do like their some of their motor and or tranny options.Since I don't tow everyday large and heavy an oil burner is a waste of $$$$ and my V10 will easily tow anything I could need. If your not a constant hauler with large needs don't be afraid to look at the gas options.
