I was planning to purchase 2008 Ford 350 Dually diesel this summer. With the high cost of fuel, diesel package cost and diesel maintenance I am having 2nd thoughts. I am looking for input from people who own a 2008 Ford 350 single wheel or dually that have the V10 gas engine. What kind of mileage can I expect empty and pulling along the line of a three horse gooseneck. Also comments on the V10 performance. Thanks.

With the current fuel/gas prices that is getting to be an issue again. When I first started selling medium duty trucks, there were many situations that gasoline power made more sense economically because of total miles driven per year, initial purchase price, and maintainence costs. I think pulling a three horse gooseneck in most situations the V10 will be more than adequate. With 362 HP, and 457 lbs/ft of torque, you will have close to the power the mid-late 90's turbo diesel pickups. One of the things to be aware of, though, is elevation. A naturally aspirated gas engine will lose a percentage of it's horsepower as you climb the mountain. If you spend a considerable amount of time pulling in the mountains, over 6 or 7,000 feet, be prepared for some power loss that you won't feel with a turbocharged engine.
